He was in one of the front rows of WrestleMania VI at Toronto’s SkyDome, marveling at his childhood hero WWE Legend Hulk Hogan (with whom Edge would later win the WWE Tag Team Titles) along with the nearly 68-thousand other fans. Edge’s quest to become a WWE Superstar wasn’t easy by any stretch; however, destiny certainly helped him to his goal. He won an essay contest by the Toronto Star over thousands of other entrants that gave him the opportunity to train to become a professional wrestler under Sweet Daddy Siki and Ron Hutchinson, two Toronto-area legends.
Edge trained to become a WWE Superstar while working and putting himself through college, where he graduated with a degree in Broadcasting. He worked as a professional wrestler around Canada and the United States before finally achieving his dream of being a WWE Superstar in 1997.
Edge has proven to be one of the WWE’s most decorated Superstars, with a record 14 WWE Tag Team Championships, a United States Championship, five Intercontinental Championships, seven World Heavyweight Championships and four WWE Championships. In addition to his championship accolades, Edge won the 2001 King of the Ring tournament, the inaugural Money in the Bank ladder match in 2005, and the Royal Rumble match in 2010 making him the only WWE Superstar in history to achieve all three of those accomplishments.
Edge made his feature film debut in Highlander: Endgame and is a best-selling author for his autobiography Adam Copeland on Edge. In 2012, Edge will star in the feature film Bending the Rules alongside Jamie Kennedy, Jennifer Esposito, Alicia Witt and Jessica Walter. In the film, Edge and Jamie Kennedy set off to find a stolen car; action and comedy quickly develop, because the stolen car is merely a small piece of a much larger puzzle. Bending the Rules is scheduled for release in April 2012.
Edge is also in demand on the small screen. Edge has joined the cast of the Syfy hit series Haven in the guest-starring role of “Dwight Hendrickson.” A shrewd, longtime Haven resident, Dwight assisted the former sheriff in keeping particularly suspicious supernatural activity under wraps and now he is helping the new sheriff with the same duties. He also recently appeared on the season finale of the Syfy hit series Sanctuary. Over the years, Edge has appeared on MADtv, Deal or No Deal, The View, MTV Video Music Awards, Larry King Live, Fox & Friends and CNN Showbiz Tonight.
Eight days after he successfully defended his World Title against Alberto Del Rio in epic fashion at WrestleMania XXVII, The Rated-R Superstar shocked the WWE Universe by announcing that he must retire due to injury. The 11-time World Champion – who held more titles than anyone else in WWE – walked away from the squared circle at the top of the mountain but he is still an active member of the WWE roster.
