Known for his distinctive ‘SMIF’ signature, superstar artist Dan Smith will take a prominent spot in Artist Alley at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con, August 21-24. And while he’ll have plenty of his works, the illustrator and graphic artist famed for his work for Wizards of the Coast, FASA, White Wolf, Steve Jackson Games, Iron Crown, Hasbro, Nintendo, Namco and others will have an extra treat for fans at the Midwest’s largest pop culture convention.

This past year, Dan has been hard at work on his comic book series “Armageddon: Hell,” and will be debuting issue 5 at the show.

While known primarily as an illustrator, Smith is also a designer of family card games, including “Battle of the Bands,” “Portable Adventures” and the upcoming “King of Crime.”

Smith has a variety of illustration styles ranging from kid friendly to teen edgy. His black-and-white work for GURPS became so prominent in the 1990s, he became the unofficial ‘house artist’. One of his techniques was to photograph friends in poses as illustration models. This allows friends to flip through role-playing game books and see themselves on the pages dressed as wizards and secret agents.

With fellow graphic designers Jeff Koke and Derek Pearcy, Smith won the 1997 Origins Award for Best Graphic Presentation of a Roleplaying Game, Adventure, or Supplement for the role-playing game In Nomine. He also garnered a nomination for best traditional card game and supplement for his seminal Battle of the Bands and its sequel, Backstage Pass.

Also he will be updating Battle of the Bands in a new Kickstarter campaign in November, drop by the table for more info! (He has a demo copy if you want to check it out...)=
