2016 is the 50th anniversary of one of the most beloved franchises in fandom and so far, many hardcore Trek fans have felt…underwhelmed… by the “celebration.” This panel is an attempt to discuss, with Trek Fans, the current – and possibly lacking – state of the Star Trek franchise. Does it work better on TV? Is it an untapped “Mega-Franchise” a-la Marvel, or has Trek’s time essentially past in the wake of “hipper and glossier” sci-fi. Though there seems to be no end to the forms they take in stories today, it also seems like we're constantly on the hunt for new ones we haven't heard of. My name is Jason Petty, and I'm an author who has delved into the deep end in my research and I now humbly invite anyone interested to join me as I list off some of the best (if often overlooked) examples of vampires in entertainment! I'll look at the mythology of each vampire example, look into the lore, what makes them unique, what makes them tick, and why they resonate with readers and viewers the world over, and in some cases, why I even call them vampires!
