THURSDAY, JUNE 19
4:30 – 5:15PM CROWDFUNDING CREATIVITY: FROM NOVEL TO COMIC, GAME AND WORLD
Kickstarter has obviously changed the game in terms of getting funding for various creative projects which might otherwise not have gotten off the ground. But it's also made it possible to take an existing work and broaden both its exposure and reach into other mediums. Icarus is a novel and graphic novel with art from professional comics artist Matt Slay, to be published by Silence in the Library Publishing in the fall. In this panel, speculative fiction author Gregory A. Wilson (writer of Icarus and creator of the world of Vol in which it's set) and game designer Kris Siuda discuss how they leveraged their different creative backgrounds and fan bases (including their contacts from their successful channels on the Twitch TV gaming site) into a highly successful Kickstarter for Icarus, and how that success is helping create the foundation for the computer game version of Icarus, which will run its own crowdfunding campaign in early 2015. Wilson and Siuda will also discuss the process of developing Icarus into a graphic novel and game, and answer questions about how to use Kickstarter and other resources to develop any given creative idea into a reality. (ROOM 109)

5:30 – 6:15PM INDY COMIX CREATORS ROUNDTABLE WITH MIKE MANLEY, TERRY LaBAN, JAMAR NICHOLAS, T. CAMPBELL & PHIL KAHN
The model of comics creators tethered to one or two major publishers, working on adventures of corporately-owned characters is no longer the only game in town. Many of the top talents in comics work either exclusively on their own material, while others work both sides of the street, alternating independent work with mainstream assignments done in their own distinctive styles. Here, speaking about how they have forged their own paths, are some of the most distinctive creators in comics today: Mike Manley (Action Planet), Terry LaBan (Edge City), Jamar Nicholas (Fist Stick Knife Gun), T Campbell (Guilded Age) and Phil Kahn (Guilded Age). The panel is moderated by Danny Fingeroth (The Rough Guide to Graphic Novels). (ROOM 109)

From the mega-success of “The Walking Dead,” George Romero’s Marvel comic “Empire of the Dead,” the “World War Z” movie and Alexandre Phillipe’s new “Doc of the Dead” documentary, zombies are continuing to shamble (and run) amok in pop culture. But what have been the key moments where zombies have infected entertainment and do the hungry corpses have an expiration date? And what’s next? TV personality and zombie fiend Aaron Sagers digs up other Z-experts for an exciting panel on the good, bad and really ugly of the walking dead genre. (ROOM 111)
