The Mandalorians: Mississippi Division was founded in April 2005, when a group of five friends discovered a mutual liking for the Star Wars saga and eventually attended CIII together. In the five years since, the MS Mandalorians, as we are also known, have grown to be the premier and largest Sci-Fi appreciation group in the state of MS having also appeared at Celebration IV and V.
Through requests and our own heartfelt need to extend the helping hand by serving the community through our Sci-Fi appreciation, we provide appearances in character's costumes to different charity events. The MS Mandalorians have become involved in several local charities around the Metro Jackson area including the Crossgates Exchange Club - Over the past three years we have donated time, labor, and staffing to the Hilltop Painted Acres Haunted House event. We have also worked with the March of Dimes for the March for Babies 5k Walk. We partner with the Jackson Zoo for the both events "Boo at the Zoo" and "Zoo Day". Our fan base participates in the Pearl Christmas Parade every year. Our members work in conjunction with the Mississippi Braves, by inspiring and participating in "Star Wars Night" for the past three years. In 2010 we appeared for the American Lung Association's Fight for Air Climb Walk/Run. We are also partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night" fundraisers and engage in cooperative events with them twice a year. We also participate with the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots in the Jackson Metro Area every holiday season.
More than our love for the saga itself, it is the children's (of all ages, and sometimes the parent's as well) faces when they meet their favorite characters that they see in the Star Wars movies and cartoons, that ensures what we do is worthwhile. With each and every event we are asked to participate in, our group of friends grows, as each new member brings their own special cause to our group, and it is through that which we grow in spirit, community, fellowship, and friendship.
