Mina SanwaldMina Sanwald is an American Illustrator and Animator who currently works for Hound Comics, Inc. Mina grew up on Long Island, New York with her Mother, Father and younger sister. Mina is an avid fan of video games and comics. More specifically Mass Effect and Catwoman.

From an early age Mina showed a keen interest in the arts. Lucky enough to grow up during a true renaissance of animation, she “studied” the great cartoons of the mid 80s and early 90s. Shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Ducktales, and Batman the Animated series, consumed her imagination and her sketchbook. Although today she hates to admit it, while growing up she was most infatuated by the Japanese animated cartoon “Sailor Moon.” To this day she can’t figure out who is cooler Sailor Venus or Catwoman.

In 2006 she was accepted to The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University with a scholarship. While there she learned a great number of skills under the tutelage of such masters as Jim Hoston and the Late Robert Kaufman. Although the school was very classically driven later classes aloud students to explore a more commercialized art. It was during Senior Year in Jim Hoston’s class, Comic book and Storyboard, That Mina came to realize how much she loved to draw comics. Mina applied what she learned about comics to her animation and developed a drawing style that was uniquely her own. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelors degree in Animation and Illustration in May 2010. Upon graduating she turned her attention away from Bean town and towards the Big Apple.

Aside from Hound, she currently works with the King of Independent Animation, Bill Plympton, in New York City as a colorist and clean up artist. She will be credited in two up and coming animated shorts from Plympton. In addition to work in the studio she is working on several animated pieces, one is particular is a fan animation from a video game she hopes to get out by 2012. Mina is responsible for the Hound Comics web series, “Fowl Play” as well as being the key illustrator for the forthcoming “Big Fat Book of Luscious Chicken” based on the popular character Luscious from the Brimstone and The Borderhounds series. She looks forward to the future with much excitement and loves being a Hound Artist.
