|Bernie Wrightson began his comic book career with DC Comics on HOUSE OF MYSTERY and HOUSE OF SECRETS before joining writer Lein Wein in creating SWAMP THING, a humanoid plant creature that has been adapted into numerous films and TV series. |
In 1971, Wrightson branched out of DC and self-published BADTIME STORIES, a horror/sci-fi comics anthology featuring his own scripts and artwork. Wrightson drew each story in a different way, from ink wash to screen tones in a way that challenged the conventions of the comics medium.
Wrightson has also worked on numerous comics over the course of his career, including VAMPIRELLA, NIGHTMARE, CREEPY, BATMAN: THE CULT, THE WEIRD, THE PUNISHER: P.O.V., THE INCREDIBLE HULK, FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER, CHAMBER OF DARKNESS, THE SPECTRE, WEB OF HORROR, EERIE and EPIC ILLUSTRATED.
Wrightson also provided art for the comic adaptation of Stephen Kingís CREEPSHOW, which led to numerous collaborations with King, including illustrations for CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF, THE STAND and DARK TOWER V: WOLVES OF THE CALLA.
Wrightson has contributed album covers for a number of bands, including Meat Loaf. He has also illustrated numerous books including UNUSUAL SUSPECTS, FRANKENSTEIN, ZOMBIE JAM, THE MUTANTS, GARDENS OF THE DEAD and THE REAPER OF LOVE AND OTHER STORIES.
