Julia BensonJulia knew entertaining was in her blood from a very young age. At just six years old, she began training in ballet, tap and jazz, and by the time she was 13, had discovered her passion for theatre. She went on to study theatre at UBC, and continued to hone her craft at David Mamet’s Atlantic Theatre Company in New York.

This multifaceted performer recently won a 2010 Leo Award in the Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series, for her recurring role as 2nd Lieutenant Vanessa James on the hit sci-fi series ‘SGU: Stargate Universe’ Julia’s popular recurring role allows her to play a versatile and engaging character:

Julia has amassed a list of impressive television and film credits throughout her acting career. Her television credits include guest starring roles on the popular CBS mini-series ‘Harper’s Island,’ the Fox comedy ‘Reaper,’ the CW hit shows ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Smallville,’ as well as ‘Whistler’ and ‘Masters of Horror.’

This summer 2010 Julia filmed the female lead in the MOW “Earth’s Final Hours” for the SyFy Channel. Her film credits include the family comedy ‘Mr. Troop Mom,’ starring George Lopez and Jane Lynch. She also appeared in the comedy ‘Blonde and Blonder,’ and MOW’ ‘Lying to Be Perfect.’

Aside from her performing credits, Julia has also been honing her creative skills behind the camera. Julia has just finished co-creating and producing a half hour, single-camera comedy pilot for City TV, with her husband Peter Benson.

Julia currently lives in Vancouver, where she spent most of her life. When she isn’t busy filming, she enjoys hiking with her dog and traveling.
