|Artists represented in the benefit auction include Neal Adams, Jim Lee, Paul Chadwick, Matt Groening, Andy and Joe Kubert, Timothy Truman, Bill Willingham, Howard Chaykin, David Lloyd, Francis Manapul, Bo Hampton, Mike Grell, George Pérez, Dave Sim, and many, many others.
“Actually, we have more artwork than we’ll be able to auction off on Saturday night,” according to event coordinator Adriane Nash. “Whatever we have that we cannot present at the show will be auctioned off online at comix4sight.com.”
In addition, many signed manuscripts and books have been donated by top-notch writers including Marv Wolfman, Christos Gage, and others,” Nash stated.
“We have also raised more than $14,000 in cash contributions,” event producer Mike Gold acknowledged. “Whatever funds that are left over after John’s glaucoma surgery will be donated to the Hero Initiative, the fund for comics creators in need.”
John Ostrander is a 30-year veteran of the comics field and a playwright facing the possibility of blindness from glaucoma. He is in the midst of a series of difficult operations to protect his remaining eyesight and, like a growing number of Americans, needs to supplement his insurance in order to cover the surgeries.
“We are amazed and thrilled at the response from the comics community,” Gold noted.
The auction will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, next to the Chicago Comic Con being held at the Rosemont Convention Center. The event is being sponsored by Wizard Entertainment, publishers of Wizard Magazine and producers of Chicago Comic-Con, and is being covered live at getthepointradio.com.
Admission is $40.00 and covers food, open bar, and a donation to the fund.
