Our Fair City is a campy, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi audio epic, released entirely over the internet. Episodes of Our Fair City are available for free at www.OurFairCity.com.
A darkly funny, highly whimsical look at corporate consumerism all grown up, Our Fair City is set in the not so distant future: the skies are stormy, and the landscape is a vast frozen tundra. Lightning rigs high above the city gather energy from thunderstorms, mad scientists walk the earth, and adorably monstrous Molepeople dig tunnels deep underground to expand the cityís habitable space.
Our Fair City was conceived as an examination of the consequences of consumer culture and global climate change in the context of a playful science fiction setting.
We chose to work in the medium of audio drama because of the opportunities it offers a small production company. Large crowd scenes, epic fight sequences, and monstrous creatures can be conjured in the listenerís imagination without a large budget for extras or effects. Audio drama also asks the audience to be a more active participant in the story than other mediums, listening carefully and creating the characters and settings in their mind.
In Our Fair City, our setting is outlandish and foreign, but we tell stories that are heartfelt and human. We want to tell fun, memorable, and relatable stories first and foremost, but along the way we hope to call attention to the serious environmental crisis the world faces. The setting itself tells the story of impersonal corporate greed and the effects of unrestrained consumption of natural resources.
