Popular Pokemon trading card and video gaming tournaments are coming to Wizard World Toronto Comic Con, April 14-15, with Skyfox Games conducting Regional Championships in both disciplines. The TCG Pokemon Spring Regional Championships are set for Saturday, April 14 (single-elimination Finals on Sunday) and the VG competition is set for Sunday, April 15.
The event will be held at the Level 200 meeting rooms at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Admission to Toronto Comic Con is not required to attend or compete in the Pokemon TCG or VG tournaments.
Registration each day is from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Entry into the Pokemon Championship events is free. Players can choose to enter the Wizard World Convention which is at the same site but is located one floor up. (Please note: There is an entry fee to enter the Wizard World Convention)
The Spring Regional Championships do not require an invitation, or qualification. All players in good standing are welcome to participate. VG players must have a Player ID (available through www.pokemon.com) to play either event. VG layers must provide their own Nintendo DS systems and Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version Game Cards.
In addition, VG players should bring chargers for their Nintendo DS systems, as the tournament staff will not have chargers available for loan.
Prizes are awarded in three age divisions: Junior (born 2001 or later); Senior (1997-2000); and Masters (1996 or earlier). National Championships travel awards, byes and booster packs are among the prizes, in addition to Championship points.
Oshawa, Ontario-based Skyfox Games conducts dozens of tournaments throughout the year, including Pokemon, L5R, Magic and YuGiOh!.
