The Wizard World Film Festival has already launched the career of 2006 Best In Festival winner, Marcus Perry. Since taking home the coveted award, Perry has gone on to write the action thriller THE TAKE for The Weinstein Company, which is set to film in Hong Kong over the summer of 2008. In addition, he is slated to direct a horror/comedy called CUBICLE for Touchstone Entertainment.
Perry’s film, RAZOR SHARP, follows the adventures of corporate thief Veronica Sharpe whose unique code of morality is put to the ultimate test when she’s hired to steal a revolutionary codebreaker that is revealed to be a twelve-year-old girl. Set in a near-future world where corporations control the planet, the 25-minute short boasts over 120 visual effects shots, elaborate stunts and pyrotechnics, and a surprising amount of humor in the vein of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Genre fans will undoubtedly recognize two of the film’s stars, Michael T. Weiss of THE PRETENDER fame and Skye McCole Bartusiak from BOOGEYMAN and television’s 24.
Since RAZOR SHARP’s debut at Wizard World Texas in November of 2006, the short has won numerous film festival awards including Best Action Film at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con, has received write-ups in national publications ranging from WIZARD MAGAZINE to SCIPT MAGAZINE, and has spawned its own comic book spin-off as well.
