David Crosland a.k.a. King Gum
In October of 1978, Dave Crosland was born to hard-working parents in the wilds of Buffalo, NY. Since graduating from The Columbus College of Art and Design in 2000, he's pursued a steady career in freelance illustration.
Crosland's art has appeared on underground concert posters for bands such as Jane's Addiction, Rufus Wainwright, and Galactic. This led to his work appearing as a backdrop design for Incubus during Lollapalooza 2003. Dave's ties to the music world continued, as he created illustrations for hip-hop guru Blueprint's solo album, 1988, and the worldwide release of Gym Class Heroes gold record, As Cruel As School Children. Weaving his art into the music industry also pushed Dave's work into the world of extreme sports, as he created two lines of board designs for Ride Snowboards.
He's taken a bite out of the editorial world, doing spot illustrations and portraiture for Spin, Venus, Tastes Like Chicken, Metro LA, and Time Out Chicago. Dave's artwork has graced the pages of comic books, from indie titles such as Puffed and his original creations Kung Fu Bus-Boy and Slop, to mainstream releases like the zombie epic, Everybody's DEAD and film-inspired sequel, Scarface: Scarred For Life. His solo comic work has appeared in various anthologies, including the critically-acclaimed Popgun Anthology and Meathaus. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, he delved into the world of animation, doing character design work for Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers Animation, and Walt Disney Animation.
Dave can currently be found in L.A., toiling away at new comic projects, animation concepts and a delightful body of new fine art works. View his art online at www.hiredmeat.com.
