Alley Talk:
Adam Byrne

Wizard showcases some of the talent you will find appearing in Artist Alley at our upcoming shows and gives you the 411 on what to expect at the con and what projects they have coming down the pipeline.

1) What are you currently working on?
We're currently finishing up our first graphic novel The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft It's a blend of Lovecraft's biography with his mythology. H.P. Lovecraft had such a tragic life story; both parents went insane and died in a mental institution and he always feared he was next in line to inherit a kind of family curse. We thought that was a great starting point for a story.

The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft is a 4-issue mini-series topping 160 pages. We're wrapping up the finale now and should be finished by WWLA. We wanted to finish the whole book before approaching publishers so we'll be at the show to promote the book and encourage people to look for it when it's out in stores.

I must mention the rest of the creative team. Tony Salmons (pencils and inks) will surely surprise the comics establishment. Tony is known around the industry, but has spent most of his career in animation and film. I think this project will win him some much-deserved attention. Mac Carter (writer) is a director for Anonymous Content, a commercial and film production company and now, an exposed comic book nerd. As for myself, I have somehow invented a position in comics that doesn't exist, gets no credit and has no future. Besides the "Job that cannot be named," I am painting the covers and coloring the book.

2) What do you like best about attending the Wizard World shows?
The fans are always excited to see how our project is coming along.

3) What are your plans for 2008?
Publish our comic book! We've been developing this project for 7 years and actively working on the comic for 3 or 4 years.

4) What is the project you are most proud of in your career?
This is really the first and biggest independent comic for all three of us, so it's simultaneously the most proud and the most embarrassing!

5) What is your dream project?
This will sound totally lame, but having a creator-owned project that you've poured your heart and soul into for years is a dream project. Would I turn down painting covers of the great icons in comics? Spider-man, Batman? Not a chance!

6) What characters would you most want to party with? Date? Fight?
These questions are veering dangerously towards the edge of dorkdom. My lawyer tells me I don't have to answer them.
